Hello readers.
I have officially moved out of my old showroom space at 236 Grand street Brooklyn.
I would like to thank those of you who came by and supported my business there over the past year. It was an exciting step to get out of my old "of the street showroom" and into a more conventional retail location.
Severely Vintage will be dormant for the next few months, but until then I have my new store - Artifacts 20th Century - at 125 Crosby street in Manhattan.
Come by and check out some cool , rare, higher end mid century modern furniture and housewares.

Kyle at Sit and Read Furniture will remain in the space with a new book seller as his partner. Check out his site and make an appointment to see him in October!

I would like to thank Kyle for putting me up for the year I was out there and wish him well in his new venture.

VINTAGE BRIONVEGA RADIO BY ZANUSO AND SAPPER

Rare vintage radio.
The TS255 Radio was designed by Richard Sapper and Macro Zanuso in 1964. Its simple and it is functional but it is above all a fantastic object of cubist design.
It is impossible to know what's hidden within the black cube. To find out you have to open it. Inside you find the display and the control panel on the right hand side of the cube.
This particular model features a very rare asymetrical face and control design. The Volume knob is missing but the stem is still in place and can be used to control the volume.

It has a wooden base with lovely turned out legs, a cast iron top that adjust in height and the seat has been replaced with a distressed leather cushion. Perfect. Seriously, this chair is perfect. That may be an affront to the Gods but it is a treat for the eyes. This Herman Miller shell chair has a deep rich blue color with great fibers and a narrow black H base. The base was painted somewhat sloppily in it's life but this doesn't detract from the gorgeosity of the shell. All it's shock mounts and glides intact, this chair is ready to work at your desk, hold your sweater in your bedroom, or hold down the corner in your living room.

This mid-mod manufactured metamorphosizing mini masterpiece is light, collapsible and super functional. The height adjusts from 3 feet to 6 feet tall! It works great! There is light wear on the orb which has been repainted in it's original glossy black color and some patina on the aluminum tripod but it looks great. price - $150

SHOTGUNNED TRUCKS SIGN

Comedian Eddie Izzard has a bit in one of his comedy routines about how destruction is a creative act. He supposes that being a young punk kid and throwing a rock through a window is creative because it changes the energy of the thing you are destroying. If that's the case then the shotgun wielding Michelangelo who created this piece was a master. Riddled with bullet holes this sign has gone from instruction to inspiration. I think my favorite thing about it is the way the force of the bullets created little even circles of crazing and cracking around the point in which they penetrated the sign. It's a bullet battered beauty! I haven't measured it but I would estimate it at 10" x 32".

This awesome 60's/70's portable record player folds up into a James Bond-like briefcase. Then when you need tunes you can pop off the speakers and listen to your favorite radio station, kick out some picnic jams, or test the vinyl at your local flea. It has a new needle, new batteries and was tested again this morning. This is SUPER loud. These speakers are really powerful and put out a ton of sound. It can be plugged in with the cord or toted around full of D cell batteries for portable power.

Great pair of distressed eames sideshells.The side of one chair has cracked making the back a little "soft" it doesn't feel like it will break but it flexes more than the other. Both chairs have distressed zinc plated H bases and all of their glides. Chairs are marked and in good vintage condition.

One arm and one side chair in an amazing vintage woolen red plaid. The back of the side was left in the original black naugahyde to give it a unique look. The chair is dated 1963 and is now in excellent like new condition.

Beautiful bench! This simple but sophisticated piece has a hefty pedigree. Raymond Loewy is most famous for his industrial design but did produce some varied and interesting furniture. This great piece has a drawer that is finished on both sides and slides through either way. This allows you to put the drawer / shelf portion on either side depending on your space. The seat has been reupholstered in a light blue heavy gauge cotton linen but could be reupholstered in any material you like. 36" wide, 18" tall at the seat, 26" tall to the table top. In good vintage condition.

This awesome table lamp has a 3 way switch. Light the top, then the bottom, then the whole lamp. Use it for your end table and you have a perfect percolation of powerful projection (say that 5 times fast.) The chrome has some pitting but what disco doesn't look a little dingy in the daylight?
Paired here with toast coasters. Yup, TOAST COASTERS. This set of 3 kids play food slices of bread has been re-purposed. While recently looking for coasters for a friend who has nice furniture it came to my attention that coasters stink and are often overpriced. So in the cheeky spirit of a conversation piece these three plastic slices now provide the protection your table top so desperately deserves. Go nuts with your sweaty drinks and don't worry about the mold! Two white one wheat.

With designs by E. Gromme and Ib Kofod Larsen G-Plan was a modern furniture line marketed in the UK and Europe. Think of it as England's John Stuart or Lane. This great teak coffee table has a glass top allowing you to look through to the fabulous limited edition Herman Miller compendium or Phaidon Collection you want out but not near the drinks. It's 20" wide x 54" long and 17" high. Simple, beautiful, and functional. What more could you want?

DANISH MODERN VANITY SET

Beautiful! This danish mirror has a solid teak frame and the most simple and elegant lines! It measures 16.5" wide and 33" tall. The 2 drawer unit that it is leaning on is Brazilian rosewood and is the perfect entry way shelf, vanity table, or miniature laptop desk. It measures 24" wide, 13" deep, 11" tall at the back of the angled support and 5" tall in front. Ridiculously easy to mount with 2 wallscrews. Sleek simple dovetailed drawers and black steel pulls. Great color and woodgrain pattern.

DANISH MODERN DUX WRITING DESK

Gorgeous desk with sleek simple lines. The writing surface was damaged some time ago and has been painted black to hide the hideous-ness.That said the rich teak amber and now semi-gloss black writing surface seem to go hand in hand. It's a beautiful desk with an ample top drawer and a real file drawer. Plenty of room for your computer, your coffee, your bose dock etc. It's 51" long, 27.75" deep , and 28.5" tall. According to the scrawlings of a third grader in 1967 this desk is a golden late 60's survivor.

INCREDIBLE DANISH MODERN SOLID TEAK WALL UNIT

Just an incredible unit! Four 79" tall wall mount rods support 11 different shelves. The wall rods or "stantions" are a super-simple slatted design with a teak veneer over metal, making them attractive but very sturdy. There is one "desk" shelf (perfect for a laptop as pictured) that is 12.75" deep, four shelves that are 9.25" deep, and six shelves that are 7" deep. All the shelves are 33.75" wide making up three bays that cover an astounding 103" of wall space! The unit can be arranged an infinite number of ways and the shelves are solid teak. Very reminiscent of the units created by Poul Cado and Kai Christiansen. There are some burns on the underside of shelves ,from candles I imagine, but the unit is in very good condition otherwise.The unit is easy to move, easy to install, and an organizational dream!

Very cool pair of vintage helmets. These seem to be elephant-hide gray, the same color as the eames chairs from the same time. The fabric guts or inner frames are gone but they do still make an impression. Come get them as-is and enjoy them or wait until I have turned them into hanging pendant lamps and get them then.

HANDI-CRAFT MODERN TABLE / DESK

Cobbled together from different pieces this table is a bit of hand made modern. It's a contemporary top with Hard rock Maple vintage legs. The feet are these amazing self-leveling glides that are these big atomic disks of bakelite. They look like they are about to propel this table into space. The angled lines remind me of Mccobb and Prouve. The Blond and black of Aaalto and Nelson. The dimensions are 30" tall, 30" wide, and 48" long. Use it for a clean and simple work table, a desk, or pair with chairs for a little urban ding table.

BIG big chalkboard. It's 4' 3" wide by 6' 3" tall. Dates to the late 1940's. It's enamel over thin steel and is super heavy! A great piece that could of course be wall-mounted horizontally as well as leaned up against the wall vertically as shown here. There is one chip in the finish but it adds to the distressed charm.

Fantastic Florence Knoll credenza. Stamped 1969 and marked with the knoll label on the underside.
The measurements: h: 27 in, l: 48 in, d: 18 in. it has got the laminate walnut woodgrain top and and unfortunately it has a little water damage on the left door. Otherwise it's in good condition and super sturdy. There is no "core" to the punch lock for the doors but these are easily replaceable.

ORLA MOLGAARD NIELSON / PETER HVIDT DINING / DESK CHAIR

Designed in 1956 this chair is gorgeous! The seat back and posts under the seat show strong influence from Finn Juhl. The seat has a few knots in the cord and 2 small staple repairs on the underside but otherwise the chair is in excellent vintage condition with a heavy patina to the oiled teak frame. This chair goes very well with the above posted Danish wall unit AND a teak DUX desk from Sweden that will be listed in a few days.

Beautiful American 1950's lounge chair. It just came back from the re-upholsterer and has new strapping and brand new cushions. It has got a blond rock maple frame and super simple lines. The fabric is a vintage upholstery fabric and is light "grasshopper" green with a little bit of a black background and a super cool nubby texture.

A really beautiful example of what American companies were doing in terms of great design in the 50's. This chair is a lot like the Emeco chair but it combines bent wood with aluminum. it has wooden slat back with a wooden seat pan. A very sturdy and surprisingly comfortable chair. All mechanics are in good shape; height adjust well, reclining spring still very strong, and castors roll smooth and evenly.

Incredible little chair! This proportionally diminutive chair packs a lot of punch. The solid teak frame has got the most beautiful sculptural arms and it has a really comfortable low profile. This too just came back from the re-upholsterer and it has new cushions with a rich olive green basket weave fabric.

Great little table. It is 31" x 34" on top and is 28" tall. Danish minimal modern. This table would have originally had a floating top with two expanding leaves, but the top is no longer with us and now the leaves have been mounted together to make this perfect little apartment sized table. There is one small burn on the dining surface but it hardly detracts from the overall appearance.

A joyful Traffic Jam! They might be Creative Playthings but they are not marked. These vintage toy cars and trucks are solid maple. The ambulance seems to be odd man out as it's slightly larger, but it does add that certain something. (especially when staging the imaginary accident). They are all a little "loved up" but they still roll and are awesome child-like instant nostalgia for you or some young person you know.

Wow! This fantastic desk or dining chair has been reupholstered in new-vintage fabric. The fabric reminds me of Alexander Girard or Marrimekko but with a very tactile weave. The legs and spine have purposefully been left in their distressed condition to juxtapose the newness of the fabric. Great lines reminiscent of Mccobb or Eames but now with a great helping of color and pattern.
